Foster Closets
Foster, adoptive and kinship care families are always changing, and so are the needs of their kids! Whether you’re in need of a toddler bed, toys, or gently used clothing, a local “foster closet” can be a great resource for your family. We’ve compiled a list of foster closets and resources serving families like yours in the DFW area. PLEASE contact each location to confirm details/hours/procedures before you make a visit. Some locations allow you to “shop” for children in your care, while others pull items for you. The resources listed here are independent, and not a part of the Embrace Texas ministry. You might also consider placing requests on Embrace’s Facebook page The Loop: By Embrace.
Have items you’d like to donate to a child in need in our community? See resources listed below!

Donate Items
Have clothing, furniture, or baby equipment you no longer need? If it’s in GREAT shape, please consider donating it to a local foster closet. Embrace does not accept donations of used items directly, but items may be offered on the Facebook group The Loop .
Below are a few of the most commonly requested items:
dressers/chest of drawers
bicycles
car seats
strollers
outdoor toys
baby/toddler clothing
beds and cribs
Used Luggage
Have you seen a meme or news story asking for used suitcases for children in foster care? We LOVE when individuals in our community are thinking about the needs of neglected and abused children, and wanting to be a part of serving these little neighbors well! While we do sometimes get requests for luggage for children, we far more often get requests for the items listed above. If you have luggage you would like to offer to a foster family, please feel free to list it for free on The Loop (Facebook group).
When foster children move from home to home, or are reunited with their parents, they may have spent many months (or even years) in the same home. As you can imagine, they may accumulate a LOT of clothing, toys, and belongings in that time. When it’s time for a child to move to another situation, their foster parents may use luggage to pack some items, but they also frequently use plastic tubs or packing boxes. While there are some sad stories about trash bags being used, foster parents overwhelmingly take great care and love when packing their foster children’s items for a move. Transitioning home or to a new family can be an emotional, bittersweet time for everyone involved. Please pray for children navigating these big changes, and the families who have opened their homes and hearts to them.
