each year over 1,200 teens "age-out" of foster care in Texas

25% of youth leaving care are homeless almost immediately.

80% cannot support themselves within just a few years of emancipation. 50% are unemployed.

Only 50% have a high school diploma or GED.

7 out of 10 girls who age-out will be pregnant or parenting by age 21.

When given the tools to keep house, prepare healthy meals, and get a good night’s sleep, young adults leaving foster care are more likely to maintain their housing and less likely to become homeless. Embrace provides “First Apartment Kits”, furniture, graduation celebration, life-skills classes, and a robust network of resources to teens transitioning out of foster care. We build relationships with teens as they take their first steps into independence. We’re there to celebrate successes and encourage them when they face difficulties. If you would like more information regarding Project Launch, or our other efforts with foster youth, contact us at info@embracetexas.org.

YOU can be a part of the success stories for these youth. Become a monthly donor and be a CHANGEMAKER! Your tax-deductible donation of $19 sends a child in foster care on an outing (such as a zoo day, museum, or baseball game). $39 provides an evening of respite care or parent support group to a local foster family. $59 sponsors adoptive family recruitment efforts for a child in foster care. $99 provides weekly life skills classes for a teen in foster care.

Your church, small group, family, office or team can pitch in to collect all the basics a young adult needs to set up their first apartment or dorm. All donated items must be new and in any original packaging. ** Please note: Do not collect items without first registering your donation drive using the form below. We carefully manage our inventory, and sometimes pause collection on specific items. Thank you!

My apartment was just bare walls. Now I have everything I need. This feels like home, and I’m going to work hard to keep it that way.

    – Stephen, Age 19, Foster Alumni

I finally got approved for my apartment. When I moved in, people from Embrace delivered a bed for me and my daughter, and even unicorn bedding for her! She’s so excited to have her own bed.

    – Davina, Age 20, Foster Care Alumni, Mother of 1

All I want is for my kids to be happy and stable. Thank you to Embrace, now we have everything we need for our new home.

    – Kayli, Age 22, Mother of 3

When ladies graduate from our program and are ready to move out on their own, our first stop is always at Embrace. They get to “shop” for the items they need for their new home.
