doing good with your goods
Embrace does not directly accept donations of gently used toys, clothing, furniture, or luggage BUT these items can be very helpful to the families we serve. Instead of warehousing items (and becoming a middle man), we’ve created a platform on social media to connect you (the donor) directly with those in need of what you’re offering. You can post any items you wish to offer for FREE to foster/adoptive/kinship families and foster alumni on The Loop Facebook page.
what about luggage?
When a child enters foster care, there is often no notice as these decisions are made by CPS investigators and law enforcement often in the moment. A caseworker or parent may have a brief opportunity to grab a change of clothes or a few personal items, but there’s rarely the foresight or ability to pack a suitcase. Foster parents who are preparing a child to be reunified with their family or to move to another placement typically lovingly pack up a child with all of the belongings they brought with them, as well as what they’ve accumulated while in foster care. This often includes not just clothing, but car seats, toys, bicycles, and much more. All this to say, we rarely get requests for luggage for children in foster care… and it’s often because they’re going on vacation! We do not accept donations of used luggage. but do encourage you to share them on The Loop (linked in the article above).
